Applied Sciences

Physical Science Division

The Physical Science division since its inception in 2009 has been engaged in providing the students quality education through the different course curricula. At present, it has students enrolled in 4-year Bachelor of Science (BS) UG course in Physical Science, 2-year Master of Science (MS) PG course in Physical Science and PhD programme. The UG and PG courses in Physical Science are being continued for the already admitted students till 2013. Students from the Department have been undertaking their curriculum projects in national institutes of repute. Many of them have also cleared competitive examinations, such as, GATE, JEST, JAM etc. The departmental faculties are also actively involved in research works, both theoretical and experimental, in Astronomy & Astrophysics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Condensed Matter Physics, Material Science, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

Chemical Science Division

The Chemical Science Division of Department of Applied Sciences (formerly known as Department of Chemical Science) was established in the year 2009. Since then, the division has been offering undergraduate (4 Years BS), postgra-duate (2 Years MS) and PhD courses in Chemical Science. The division is also engaged with the First Year BTech programme of GUIST.

Physical Science Division

The 4 year Bachelor of Science (BS) in Physical Science curriculum, which enables and empowers the student to take competitive examinations such as NET, GATE, GRE, provides the students the opportunity to do project work in a chosen topic of their interest in physics and related fields, starting from the 4th semester which continues till 8th semester, though the course is under the process of getting replaced by an integrated one.

The research exposure received by the students even in the undergraduate level, in terms of both training cum mentoring and visits to research institutes, helps him/her in adequate grooming to opt for a career in research.

The infrastructure available in terms of the laboratory equipments and computational resources (including access to a local HPC cluster) is good enough to cater the needs of both the first year science or engineering student and the postgraduate or PhD student.

Chemical Science Division

The faculty members of the division are actively engaged in leading edge re-search areas of Chemical Science and many students have been working for their PhD degrees. The UG and PG courses in Chemical Science are being continued for the already admitted students till 2013 and the courses are under the process of getting replaced by an innovative one. Most of the passed out students from the division have got admission in reputed Institutes like University of Nottingham (UK), BIT Mesra, Tezpur University etc. for higher studies.

Besides undertaking curriculum projects from the 4th semester itself, the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the division are encouraged to participate in workshops, seminars and summer training programmes organized by different academic and research institutes within India to strengthen their skills and give them exposure to the current developments of their field.
