Gauhati University of North-East India Studies (GUINEIS) was founded on 1st February of 2010. The institute is mandated to facilitate, support and promote inter-and-multi-disciplinary discourse and research on issues relating to the North-East of India and disseminate the output for the benefit of all stakeholders including policy makers. The Institute is housed in a building named after the eminent historian Professor HK Barpujari.
It has classrooms, a library and lecture hall and computer and internet facilities for use by students and faculty. The Institute also houses a digital studio equipped with audio-visual recording facility.
