About the Department:
I. Teaching
With a strong pool of human resources, teaching here since 2009, from three basic streams of science-- Physical Science, Chemical Science, Mathematical Science-- and having collaborative man power from engineering disciplines, such as, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biotechnology, Electronics, Instrumentation etc. and supported by adequate facilities, the Department has been handling multidisciplinary programmes / courses, both for teaching and research. Thus, the Department offers the following CBCS-SWAYAM enabled PG programmes, apart from conducting the regular PhD programmes, and AICTE prescribed mandatory Science Elective courses, for all the BTech programmes, besides the core science courses in first two semesters:
# MTech in Material Science and Technology (2 years)
# 2 years Master of Science (MS) in Physical Science, Chemical Science, and Mathematical Science (equivalent to MTech), which is discontinued along with the 4-years BS programme to restructure it to fit it into the evolving UGC/AICTE scheme
II. Research (addressing issues of concern to the society)
Though the details of the ongoing research activities may be found from the individual profiles of the Faculty and Staff members, a brief note for our prospective partners as well as research aspirants mainly, may be found below, on new methodologies / areas of active research to be explored by the Department during coming days, provided we receive adequate support from the funding agencies / industries / collaborating institutes:
Phase-I:
# Materials (both Micro and Nano) Science and Technology with emphasis on applications, addressing the need of the hour, through Modeling, Simulation, Data Analytics, and Design of Smart Materials to find usage in Green Technology based industries
# Fabrication of modeled / simulated materials
Phase-II:
# Device fabrication as well as customization, based on MEMS and NEMS, using the state-of-the-art technology to be developed in Phase-I, with a view to cater to the demands of the existing market through the Start-ups to be promoted in parallel with the research activities, in order to make the ongoing / proposed collaborative teaching-research sustainable.
