The Department of Bioengineering and Technology has been established in the year 2009 to provide state of the art infrastructure for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the field of Biotechnology and research programme in the arena of Biotechnology and allied areas.
The vision of the department is to inculcate in the minds of the students the thirst for knowledge and to make them self sufficient - technically and morally. The faculty member of the department has left no stone unturned in full filling this vision.
As the current trend has open up new vistas in the Biotechnology and allied R&D industries, Biotechnology has become the subject of choice amidst the student fraternity around the globe. The escalating demands of the skilled and trained personnel in those industries have rekindled the interest of the student to take up the various programmes of studies in the field of Biotechnology and relevant disciplines. To cater to this need of the student, especially from the North Eastern region, different programmes have been started for these students at different levels of studies.
Post graduate courses
MSc in Cancer Biology, Duration 2 years ( will be started from next session) [Intake capacity 10]
MTech in Biotechnology, Duration 2 years (Intake capacity 18)
Integrated MSc-Phd Food Science, Duration : 5 years ( Intake capacity 10)
Phd in Biotechnology ( Intake capacity : As per avilability of seats)
Undergraduate Courses
BTech in Biotechnology , Duration 4 years(Intake capacity : 30)
Admission Process
BTech admission will be through CEE(Assam) counselling as per schedule which will be notified by Directorate of Technical Education, Govt of Assam in the local newspapers and local counselling at GUIST based on CEE marks, dates for which will be notified at the GU website. The alloted students may submit the admission form online at www.gauhati.ac.in
The MTech admission at GUIST will be in following two modes:
1. Maximum 50% seats will be alloted directly to GATE qualified cadidate.
2. Remaining seats will be from entrance test to be conducted by Gauhati University
Phd admission is through Phd entrance examination conducted by Gauhati University (GU-RET) and admission to MSc courses are through entrance examination conductd by Gauhati University.
