Prof. Ankuran Dutta is presently on lien from Gauhati University and rendering his service as the Director of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Colombo, Sri Lanka in the diplomatic rank of First Secretary of Indian Foreign Service (PLCA) Rules under Indian Council For Cultural Relations of the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India. Dr. Dutta served the Department of Communication and Journalism (Estd. in 1967), Gauhati University, Guwahati as a Professor and the Head (2019-2022) and an Associate Professor and the Head (2016-2019). Dr Dutta is a media educator by profession with an experience of about 18 years and involved in different academic activities in India, Bangladesh, Canada, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Malaysia. He has been awarded with prestigious “National Award for Outstanding Efforts in Science and Technology Communication in the Electronic Medium, 2018" by the NCSTC, DST, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India on February 28, 2019. He is also awarded as the Best Media Educator (Associate Professor) at Media and Media Education Summit, 2018 in New Delhi. Dr. Dutta has participated the Study of the United States Institutes programme in Journalism and Media at E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at the University of Ohio, USA from June-August, 2018.
Before joining as a Professor in the Department of Communication and Journalism, Gauhati University in January, 2019, he also served as an Associate Professor in the same department from January 2016 along with the charge of the Head of Department. Dr Dutta’s academic career took off in the year 2004 as the founder of Media and Communication Study Centre at Cotton College, Guwahati (presently the Department of Mass Communication, Cotton University) and also held the position of Lecturer at the present department of Gauhati University in 2006. In the year 2007, he shifted to KKH State Open University (KKHSOU), Guwahati and rendered positions of Academic Consultant, Assistant Professor, Deputy Director (Multimedia) and Associate Professor & in-charge of Bhupen Hazarika School of Mass Communication. He founded the first community radio service of north east India ‘Jnan Taranga’ and the first web radio of the region ‘e-Jnan Taranga’ as the Station Manager. He worked on educational programme production in the radio for 5 years and is credited to have produced more than 800 audio and 250 audio visual educational programmes. Academically he was inducted in a short term research at York University, Toronto, Canada as a fellow of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute which formed the base of his understanding of global media. His career took flight and he received global exposure as a Programme Officer at Commonwealth of Learning; an inter-governmental organisation under UN privileges from 2013 to 2015 to look after Livelihoods and Skills of Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), New Delhi.
As part of his profile he had traveled the South Asian Countries extensively and promoted educational policies in these regions to a large extent. He participated in various national and international conferences in different parts of the world. Apart from global exposure he has been involved in promoting media issues in regional language and he has authored (11), translated (5) and edited (7) volumes of literature associated with media in English, Assamese and Bengali language along with 7 books/booklets on COVID awareness. Adding feather to his cap, Dr Dutta also wrote (30) and edited (50) more than 80 self-learning study materials for seven universities of India and abroad, published a number of research papers and articles in reputed journals (13 in UGC CARE/SCOPUS; 23 in Peer-reviewed journals; 18 Book chapters; 5 in Conference proceedings and 10 research based articles). He has contributed around 350 articles in different newspapers, periodicals and participated in around hundred programmes of radio and television. Communication is very diligently used by Dr Dutta to inculcate scientific temperament among the marginalised communities in South Asia. He has empowered communities through technical hands-on intervention of Community Radio among information poor communities. Veering into domains of science, risk and health communication through innumerable programmes using models like CLP, SBCC Dr Dutta continues to work in the development sector. He has authored, edited and translated books, research-papers and articles on the domain and organised local, national and international events to make science easy to decipher for all and dispel miscommunication.

His model C3 (Community Communication Centre), Dolphin (Characteristics of community media), OMR (Open Media Resources) are discussed in different platforms. He also rendered his service as founder Vice President of Community Radio Association of India and is currently the Managing Trustee (honorary) of the Dr. Anamika Ray Memorial Trust which is an educational and research organisation that works for media research and health rights in the nation as well as is a mouthpiece for medical negligence in the country.
Recently he has completed six international projects with University of Essex, UK; University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), US Department of State, University of Melbourne; CMIL, Colombo and UNICEF. Dr Dutta has recently nominated as a member of the Board of Advisors of Institute for International Journalism, Ohio University, USA, a member of Executive Committee of Indian Science Writers' Association and member of advisory panel for reviewing and editing of Lok Sabha Secretariat Publications, Parliament of India.

- Have been trying to give a new dynamic shape to the Department of Communication & Journalism, Gauhati University (Estbd. 1967) as Head since 01 February, 2016 and became popular as one of the most vibrant media departments in India. Organised about 80 events of International, National and Regional basis and collaborated with about 30 international and national organisations. Developed the physical and academic infrastructure with newly built RCC building, renovating the old building, Computer Lab, Non Linier Editing Lab, Multimedia Studio, Conference Room, Researchers' Lab etc. Initiated the campus recruitment opportunities with about 50% successful placement in different leading media organisations and 100% placement for mandetory two months internship in leading media organisations.

- Associated in different policy drafting of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India, including TRAI being a member of inter-governmental organisation, 2013-15.
- Prepared the policy paper cum proposal for Government of Assam on Lakshminath Bezbaruah Institute of Mass Communication and Printing Technology (Govt. established the institute based on the policy drafted), Community Radio in Assam (Govt. had allocated budget of INR 50 Lacs PA based on the policy), Government Television Channel (Initiated by the Govt. but not implemented) [as per request of Director, Directorate of Public Relations, Govt. of Assam].
- Drafted the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Policy and Open Educational Resource (OER) Policy for KKHSOU.
