Dr Hemanta Kumar Nath joined as the Registrar of Gauhati Univesity in November, 2019 prior to which he has been the Secretary, Univetsity Classes of this university.

Dr Nath completed his collegiate education from Cotton College, Guwahati. He did his masters in English Literature from Gauhati University and completed PhD from the same university. Dr Nath started his professional career in 1989 as a Lecturer in English in Sibsagar College, Joysagar, Assam. In January 2014, he switched career from the academics to academic administration and joined Gauhati University as the Secretary, University Classes. Since his college days, he has been associated with editing of books, journals and magazines. He has the experience of organising important seminars and conferences. He published important research papers and presented seminar papers in both national and internal levels. His areas of special interest are narratives, identity and ethnicity.
