Prof. Utpal Sarma is a distinguished academician and researcher specializing in smart sensors, embedded sustems, and agro-industrial instrumentation, with a particular focus on the tea industry. He holds a PhD from Gauhati University, where he developed innovative approaches to sensor technologies under the guidance of Prof. Pradip Kr. Baruah. With over two decades of teaching and research experience, Prof. Sarma has made significant contributions to curriculum development, academic administration, and industrial applications. He has served in various roles, including Head of the Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF), Director of the Stratosphere Troposphere RADAR Center, and Coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at Gauhati University. Prof. Sarma's research has resulted in product-oriented projects, such as the development of wireless sensor networks for tea process monitoring, funded by esteemed organizations like the DST (Department of Science and Technology), Govt. of India, and UGC (University Grants Commission), Govt. of India. His work has also led to numerous publications in high-impact journals and conferences, advancing the fields of instrumentation and energy harvesting. An experineced educator, he teaches post-graduate courses in biomedical instrumentation, embedded systems, and radiological physics.
