Professor H. P. Sarma has a rich experience of over 38 years in teaching and research and also in human resource management, technology transfer and social outreach activities. He started his career as a Lecturer in Chemistry at Mangaldai College after completion of his Masters in Chemistry in 1979. Later, he shifted to North Lakhimpur College at the same category in September, 1981. Finally, he joined Gauhati University as a Reader in the Department of Environmental Science in November, 1999 and was subsequently promoted to the rank of Professor in the same department in 2009. During the last few years of his service, he has served the university and other communities in different capacities. Currently, he is serving as the Rector of Gauhati University since 2014.
