The Department of Commerce established in 1948 is a leading centre of higher learning and research in the North Eastern Region. The Department also caters to the academic needs beyond the region, with its renowned faculty and the quality of teaching and also publishes a peer-reviewed journal annually. Many of the alumni of the Department have been able to establish themselves in high positions in national and international organisations and in society. Presently, the Department runs three parallel programmes viz. PhD, MCom and Five Year Integrated MCom.

Our objective has been to imbibe high moral values in the students for character building, to infuse a sense of responsibility in them and to prepare them to excel in the competitive business world.

2.  Five Year Integrated M.Com Course

The Department had launched a Five Year Integrated M.Com Course from the academic session 2009-10. It is a full time course consisting of 10 semesters spread over five years comprising of both undergraduate and post graduate studies in commerce leading to the Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) and Master of Commerce with specialization in Accounting & Finance / Management & Marketing to be awarded by the Gauhati University.

SALIENT FEATURES:

·         The course has inbuilt process of continuous evaluation of students’ performance under credit and grading system.

·         Student will be kept informed of their strong and weak points.

·         The class division into theory, tutorial and practical is rationally devised to develop students’ creativity.

·         The course is designed taking a holistic approach to study basic commerce and business subjects.

·         The Course covers almost all aspects of commerce and business education like accounting, business management, human resource management, marketing management, finance, statistics and computer to make it an Ideal Commerce Course.

·         The students will have the opportunities to learn, Computerized Accounting, E-Commerce and Business English and Soft Skills with practical training within the course.

·         A student shall have the discretion to opt out of the course after successfully completing B.Com. (Hons) degree. 

·         Placement through campus recruitment is initiated from time to time.

 MOUs

The Department had signed MOUs with Federation of Industries in North Eastern Region(FINER) and Indian Institute Of Entrepreneurship (IIE) for exchange of information, knowledge, training and research work.

 The course curriculum is inclusive of regular classroom training, case studies, presentation by students, group discussion , guest faculty lecture, summer internship, dissertation/Project work
Industry Aligned Pedagogy

The Department invites experts from various industry and organisation to exchange their expertise and knowledge in respective fields. Also projects works are carried out at various plants and industries by the students as a part of the course curriculum on a regular basis.
